Free Chinese Traditional Music Orchestra Performance on September 26 –Confucius Institute Day
The Confucius Institute of the State of Washington (CIWA) will hold a series of activities (Confucius Institute Day) to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Confucius Institute around the world. On September 26 from 19:00-20:30, a grand performance will be held at UW in Ethnic Culture Theatre by Nanjing University Traditional Instrument Orchestra (China). The Orchestra features traditional Chinese instruments in ensemble, unision, small ensemble and solo performances, using bowed and plucked strings, wind and percussion instruments. Since its foundation in 1996, the orchestra has given over 300 performances and has presented nearly 100 pieces of traditional Chinese music. It also has been invited to give performances at Harvard University, MIT, UC Berkeley, Stanford University, University of Cambridge (UK) and many other regions where they have won international awards.
Dr. Jeffrey Riedinger, Director of CIWA & Vice Provost of UW, is going to make an opening mark at the festive event.
The Orchestra is going to perform as well on September 27 at Washington State University city cultural center and on October 5 at Shortline Community College.
