Environment Science Related Career Events

I hope Fall Quarter is going well for everyone.

Here at the Career Center, we are excited to be adding informational and recruitment programming focused on our undergraduate students in the sciences. Winter Quarter events will include:

· January 22, 2014: Employer Conversations – Careers in the Sciences for Bachelor’s Degree Candidates

o This moderated employer panel will ideally incorporate employer perspectives AND alumni perspectives around successful job-searching with a bachelor’s degree in the sciences.

o We will have marketing materials available for this event by the beginning of Winter Quarter, and would love your help in advertising this to your students as you are willing and able.

· January 30, 2014: Science Career Fair

o This mini career fair will ideally involve 15-20 employers (in the HUB South Ballroom or Mary Gates Commons) and allow students in the sciences to interact with employers who are hiring for full-time/entry-level, internship and/or part-time employment opportunities.

o More intimate than large-scale career fairs, with a specific niche for students in the sciences, we hope this event will foster some great conversations and job or internship prospects.

o Similar to the Employer Conversation, we will have marketing materials available for this event by the beginning of Winter Quarter, and would love your help in advertising it to your students as you are willing and able.

We will be opening employer registration for the Science Career Fair by the end of October, and would love your thoughts and feedback as to which employers and organizations you and your students would most like to see there. We will do all we can to locate a contact at your suggested organizations, and will encourage them to attend our event.

We also welcome your thoughts and feedback regarding student interest in these events. Do you have a sense for how many of your students are likely to attend the Employer Conversation, and the Science Career Fair. Rough estimates will help us with our planning.

If you could please have any company suggestions for the Science Mini-Career Fair or speaker/alumni/panelist suggestions for the Employer Conversation to us by Friday, October 25th, we would greatly appreciate it! If you have contact names and/or email addresses, tha’ts great, but even company/organization name will give us some good jumping off points.

We are so looking forward to working with your students on these Winter Quarter events – if we can answer any questions, or support the good work you’re doing in any way, please do let us know.

Take care,

Emma
