You are cordially invited to attend the NWGS 2nd Symposium, The Paths Ahead for Northwest Geosciences, on Saturday May 4th. We have 12 excellent speakers lined up for the day: E. Cheney, J. Shively, D. Kelley, S. Vance, B. Brand, K. Huntington, M Journeay, B. Atwater, R. Haugerud, B. Sherrod, D. Montgomery, and D. McCormack. We will hear about planetary exploration, advancesin geomorphology, mining our precious resources, recent work with geological hazards and underwater volcanoes, mitigating for those hazards, and advances in reconstructing paleoclimate with an eye toward climate change. While celebrating our past, this event focuses on the opportunities and challenges which will shape the regional geosciences in the future.
Join us as we celebrate our 26th year with a day of great talks, great networking, and great refreshments. A short ceremony to honor our Lifetime Achievement Award recipients and a hosted reception will follow the talks.
You can register on line at http://nwgs.org/ or at the door, Kane Hall, UW Seattle campus, at 7:30 am. The program begins at 8:15 am. Registration ($50 for members, $60 for nonmembers, and $25 for students) includes a program, lunch, and refreshments.
