Summer Internships in Nuclear Forensics at Livermore National Labs

Dear Colleagues,

The Glenn T. Seaborg Institute at Lawrence Livermore National Labs, in Livermore, California, is once again hosting a summer internship program. Please pass on to your students:

The Nuclear Forensics Summer Program facilitates the training of the next generation of nuclear scientists and engineers to solve critical problems in the field of nuclear forensics. We select 8-10 graduate students and a few upper division undergraduates who are majoring in chemistry, physics, nuclear engineering, geology/geochemistry and environmental science. Students engage in research alongside LLNL scientists in the disciplines of actinide chemistry and radiochemistry, isotope geochemistry, radiation detection and nuclear engineering.

Please alert interested students to the website indicated for information on the programs and instructions on how to apply. The program runs for 8 weeks (mid-June – mid Aug) and students are paid a salary range, depending on grade level, of about $4000 – $4900/month.

Fellowship opportunity

All—

Obama has announced the second round of Presidential Innovation Fellows and I wanted to make sure you all were aware of the opportunity. The Presidential Innovation Fellows (PIF) program pairs top innovators from the private sector, non-profits, and academia with top innovators in government to collaborate during focused 6-12 month “tours of duty” to develop solutions that can save lives, save taxpayer money, and fuel job creation.

I was hoping that you all would share this widely since the second round will focus on nine very different topics, including disaster response & recovery, contracting tools, cyber-physical systems, open data initiatives, innovation, and financial systems. Because of the diversity of topics, I wasn’t sure who exactly who would be most interested in this opportunity. The White House is accepting applications between now and March 17th so there is a pretty quick turn around.
