Dear Professor Creager,
My name is Jason Petz, and I am writing to let you know about the "Design Help Desk" – a new tutoring service offered by the Division of Design in the UW School of Art.
The Design Help Desk offers free advice to both undergraduate and graduate students seeking to improve their visuals for presentation and publication. Earth and space science students will be able to get help on their figures, diagrams, data plots, presentations, and posters.
You may be interested in this UW Today article about the Design Help Desk:http://www.washington.edu/news/2012/02/21/design-eye-for-the-science-guy-drop-in-clinic-helps-scientists-communicate-data/. Last year the Design Help Desk was focused on helping science students, as part of an NSF-funded study. This year, we are able to help students from any discipline.
This Winter quarter, the Design Help Desk operates every Thursday from 3-5 pm in Room Red C, Research Commons, Allen Library South (http://uw.edu/maps/?alb). The consultants are graduate students from the UW Design Division.
Two faculty members are responsible for the Design Help Desk: Karen Cheng (Division of Design, UW School of Art) and Marco Rolandi (UW Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering). Funding for the Design Help Desk has been provided by the UW Division of Design and the UW College of Engineering.
I have attached a flyer to this email that I hope you will distribute and display. Please do not hesitate to contact me with further questions. I can be reached at petz.
