The University of Washington’s Quaternary Research Center (QRC) within the College of the Environment, has an outstanding opportunity for a part time Secretary Senior.

The Secretary Senior will serve as an Assistant to the Director.

The QRC ( is an interdisciplinary science center that promotes and supports research on the environment, involving faculty from the departments of Earth and Space Sciences, Archaeology and Anthropology, Biology, and others. We seek a dedicated individual to support all aspects of the running of the Center.

Tasks will include helping to organize annual research workshops, making travel arrangements for faculty and for visiting researchers, promoting the center through web site composition and development, helping with grant proposal preparation, document editing, planning and maintaining the budget, and other duties as assigned. The Secretary Senior will report to the QRC Director, and serve as the Director’s representative. He/she will also work closely with faculty and with the Managing Editor of the journal published by the QRC.

-High School graduation or equivalent AND two years of increasingly responsible office experience involving occupational-level keyboarding/typing including transcription OR equivalent education/experience.

-Excellent computer skills, include MS office desktop applications, PowerPoint, email, databases (including access), web, etc.
-Web design experience.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.

-Experience or serious interest in natural sciences, particularly in areas relating to those of existing faculty in the Center, would be a plus.
Condition of Employment:
A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification may be required prior to hire.

-Position will be 50% over 12 months or 55% over 11 months.
