We’d like to invite you to a free, public event featuring Wendy Kopp, the founder and chief executive officer of Teach for America (TFA), at the Museum of History & Industry on March 2nd at 6:30 p.m. You can register for this event at www.educationvoters.org/revolution/speakers (space is limited).
Kopp will speak about what she has learned in her twenty years working to realize educational excellence and equity for all children, which is detailed in her new book, A Chance To Make History. She leads an organization with more than 8,000 teachers dedicated to helping low-income children succeed in 39 urban and rural regions across the country.
In January, TFA announced that they are expanding to the Puget Sound area this fall. Seattle and Federal Way are two school districts that could place TFA corps members in their schools. Corps members teach for two years in schools with a high percentage of disadvantaged students. About 60 percent of teachers stay beyond the two year commitment.
