Geoscience Currents #57: Engagement Factors for Geoscience Majors
Geoscience Currents #57: Engagement Factors for Geoscience Majors
Houlton’s 2009-2010 study mapped out geoscience students’ pathways for becoming
a geoscience major and what types of careers they hope to pursue in the future
(see Geoscience Currents #45-48). A follow-up study was conducted in late 2011
with 13 of the same 17 participants from the original study. This Geoscience
Currents series addresses the changes in students’ pathways from 2009-2011,
identifies a new population group, and discusses students’ intrinsic motivation
toward geoscience career pursuit. Geoscience Currents #57 focuses on the
similarities and differences between population groups in the context of their
changing pathways from the original study. Stay tuned for Currents #58 and #59
as part of this series.
